Carter's Study Abroad experience in Paris

Hi! I'm Carter Beckstein, a third-year in the College from Sarasota, Florida majoring in Economics with a Specialization in Business Economics and minoring in Italian.

I participated in the Classics of Social and Political Thought in Paris program in Fall 2021, which wasn't directly related to my on-campus studies, but was a fantastic way to complete the social sciences sequence in a beautiful city.

My favorite thing to do while abroad was visit the many châteaux in and around Paris, which I shared on the Instagram account I made for the trip, Carter_not_Cartier.

I made the account after so many of my friends and family members asked me to send them pictures, choosing the username as a reference to the similarity between my own name and that of the famed French luxury goods company. Almost every day, I posted an update with pictures of something I'd seen or done that day—if I didn't have time to do anything special, I used the post to explain something about the city or my everyday life, such as student housing or the Paris public transportation system. Making daily posts was a great way for me to both share my travels and keep a record I could easily look back on.

Getting to spend two months living and studying in Paris was incredible, and I'm still amazed at all the beautiful, weird, and wonderful things I was able to experience.
