At the core of the discipline of Global Health lies a fundamental question: How does one deliver care to people in need across varying social contexts? The Global Social Medicine Project begins from the premise that global health interventions must result from integrated knowledge between medical practice and the social sciences. We aim to build on our recent, ongoing, and collaborative forum in which the social sciences and medicine do not simply interface but co-produce novel knowledge on global health and what it means to be human. We will achieve this goal through three key objectives: 1) collaboration and knowledge generation between physicians and scholars from around the world, meeting together at a working conference to be held in Spring 2027 at the Boyer Center; 2) dissemination of new knowledges on global health and the case of the human, through a continuing collaborative case series published in The Lancet; and 3) fostering a global, interdisciplinary community of scholars and practitioners engaged in questions of the human, health, and medicine. The International Institute of Research in Paris will host and help fund the conference and participation of underrepresented scholars from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
