Graduate Seminar Research Sessions at IIRP-Based: Humanities Division and Divinity School Partnership

Project Title: Graduate Seminar Research Sessions at IIRP-Based: Humanities Division and Divinity School Partnership
PI: Larry Norman
Award Type: 2-Year IIRP-Based
Department: Romance Language & Literatures
Division/School: Arts & Humanities
Start Year: 2024
Description:

This three-year seed grant proposal is designed to create annual graduate seminar sessions at the IIRP from the Humanities Division and Divinity School. For each  year, we have identified interdisciplinary graduate seminars which would, after the  regular quarter term in Chicago, travel to the IIRP for one or two weeks in order to engage graduate students in a variety of workshops, conferences, colloquia and other collaborations with colleagues and institutions in France, Europe (and in the  future, Africa and the Middle East). Some seminars may also include archival and onsite work in Paris with research libraries, museums, and other cultural institutions. Proposed seminars involve faculty leaders from Divinity, RLL, English, and Art History. The seminars would present a unique opportunity for graduate students from these disciplines as well as others (e.g., Philosophy, Comp Lit, Music, Social Thought, etc.) to enhance both their scholarship and their professional networks through sustained engagement with relevant scholars and institutions in the IIRP’s target regions. After this three-year ramp-up phase, we hope to make the traveling seminars a regular program of the IIRP, with open calls for proposals from the HD, Divinity, and very possibly other Divisions.
