“Global Capital: The US, Europe, and Africa” is one of an ongoing series of events on Global Capitalisms organized by the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT) featuring a workshop with ten to twelve international scholars, followed by a public panel discussion with three or four of the workshop participants. The theorization of capitalism has been fundamental to understanding the relationships between economy, society, and politics, at least since the eighteenth century. With this initiative, we aim to revisit and reinvigorate this theoretical project at a world-historical conjuncture that is marked by multiple crises of capitalism, the emergence of Southern economies as major global players, and the challenges these present for contemporary politics. In Paris, we will convene an interdisciplinary group of scholars from the US, Europe, and Africa for whom this opportunity to share current research will foster new conversations and open novel avenues for inquiry.
