Tortoise, formed in Chicago in 1990, is one of America’s most
innovative independent bands. Inspired by rock, avant-garde jazz, and
minimalism, their sound exemplifies the diversity of Chicago’s music scene. Reflecting on their premier performance together (Sons d’hiver festival), Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, and Julien Desprez will paint a vibrant portrait of
Chicago’s contemporary musical imaginary, analyzing the relation between
musical composition and urban life.
