The Center in Paris plays a pivotal role in the University of Chicago’s five-year initiative to promote the study of Europe across cultures and across the disciplines, launched in 2008 with generous support from the Mellon Foundation. A growing community of scholars will examine the dynamic concept of Europe and the forces shaping change in contemporary Europe.

Because Paris—along with Vienna and St. Petersburg—is a primary focal point of this initiative, the Center and Chicago's Hyde Park campus serve as geographic and intellectual hubs. Regular orientation sessions for European visiting scholars coming to Chicago take place at the Center, and the Center will also be the site of a major capstone conference involving all twelve Mellon scholars in 2013.

The Center in Paris is at the core of the University of Chicago’s trans-European vision. For more information about this facet of Chicago’s involvement in Europe, contact Daniel Bertsche, Information Coordinator for International Education (ddb1@uchicago.edu).
