Chicago faculty will reside in an apartment near Chicago’s Center in Paris in the 13th arrondissement. Since the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot) opened its doors in 2007 across the street from the Center, a host of restaurants and shops have sprung up within easy walking distance of both housing options. There is also an excellent bakery a block from the Center on Quai Panhard et Levassor. Monoprix (grocery and department store) also recently opened a store on the Avenue de France, right next to the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand metro stop, which is located about 200 meters up rue Thomas Mann from the apartment. From this station, one can gain quick access to many parts of the city by taking either the purple metro line #14 or the RER line C. The neighborhood is also well served by a variety of city bus lines.
University of Chicago faculty members on teaching assignments at the Center in Paris usually stay in one of three furnished one-bedroom apartments located around the corner from the Center. Each unit is about 50 sqm and includes a fully-equipped kitchen, washing machine, internet and cable TV.
