The University is pleased to announce a four-year initiative fostering liberal arts education in Central Europe, and linking colleagues from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and the Baltic States with faculty and students on the University’s campus and at the Center in Paris.

Over the four-year life of this program eight promising scholars from the participating countries will spend two consecutive quarters in residence in Chicago, where they will teach both a course in Chicago’s Core curriculum and a more advanced course, become integrated with departments and various intellectual communities on campus, participate in conferences and workshops, and advance their own research. The Center in Paris will be the site of orientation seminars for the Endeavor Scholars and of a major capstone conference in the fall of 2013.

The University of Chicago is accepting applications for year four of the program (academic year 2012-13). Applicants should be promising scholars from institutions of higher learning and advanced academic research in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, or the Baltic States—with a keen intellectual interest in undergraduate teaching, as well as demonstrated academic excellence in one or more of the disciplines of the humanities or the humanistic social sciences.
