Endeavor Visiting Scholars
Liberal Education in Contemporary Europe
A University of Chicago project funded by the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation
University of Chicago Hyde Park campus
University of Chicago Center in Paris
The University is pleased to announce a three-year initiative fostering liberal arts education in Central Europe, and linking colleagues from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and the Baltic States with faculty and students on the University’s campus and at the Center in Paris.
Over the three-year life of this program six promising scholars from the participating countries will spend two consecutive quarters in residence in Chicago, where they will teach both a course in Chicago’s Core curriculum and a more advanced course, become integrated with departments and various intellectual communities on campus, participate in conferences and workshops, and advance their own research. The Center in Paris will be the site of orientation seminars for the Endeavor Scholars and of a major capstone conference in the fall of 2012.
The University of Chicago is accepting applications for year one (academic year 2009-10). Applicants should be promising scholars from institutions of higher learning and advanced academic research in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, or the Baltic States—with a keen intellectual interest in undergraduate teaching, as well as demonstrated academic excellence in one or more of the disciplines of the humanities or the humanistic social sciences.
